My taste in clothes has not always been as fabulous as it is now...

I'm not sure why I was thinking about this today.
But I was. And decided I'd share-- 'cause it's funny.

I've had issues with clothes in the past. Not major ones, but my taste has been somewhat... oh, I don't know... scary?

When I was in the 4th grade, 10 years old, my brother got married. My mom made me a beautiful dress. The material was sheer with little white eyelets dotted all over it. I loved it. But most of all I loved the pink silk body slip that you saw through the sheerness.
I'm not sure why, but I was pretty certain that that slip was gorgeous! I'd model it in front of my full length mirror--often.

So, one day I decided I wanted to wear it to school.
It was sure to impress.
But I knew that my mom would never let me. After all it was a slip disguised as a beautiful, amazing dress. At least in my eyes. Who on earth would take it for a slip??
On the blessed day I snuck the slip into my back pack.
Once on the school bus I had my 3 little girlfriends hold out their coats and surround me. Super private, ya know.
Then I changed into my pink slip and white high heels (my first pair btw).
I wore it all day long and everything was going fantastic. My teacher looked at me a little funny--she must have wondered why I'd wear such fancy digs to school. And then Adam Phillips said to my best friend (right in front of me... and the rest of our 4th grade class): Hey Heidi, why did Jenny wear a slip to school???
And then he laughed.
And, yes I was horribly embarrassed. But mostly I wondered:
How on earth did he know it was a slip??
The end of school came. I finished the day in my pink slip.
And then I changed again on the school bus.
I never attempted to wear my slip out of the house again. I still modeled it for my mirror. I still thought it was beautiful even if everyone... EVERYONE else knew what it really was.
