Family History

Landon was doing family history the other night. We haven't really done any work on Jeff's side--I can't under my account, so he went on under Grandpa Bruce's side and it was pretty exciting! Green temple after green temple showed up and then the kids gathered around him to watch him file all our families names into the reserved slot!
We love family history!!

Trees and FH

This sweetie wanted to decorate her Grandma Bell's tree this year. She is so tender and sweet when it comes to her Grandma Bell.

Recently she also asked me if I would help her find green temples. I love that she wanted to!!
So, I let her guide me on Family Search, I told her our family names and she picked where we went. We worked for maybe an hour and she found 17 green temples!! She was thrilled!

Love from the other side

I love this picture.
It makes me think of the ones I love watching over me and my family from the other side.

Dorothy

On Easter my mom in law asked me to help Grandma Bruce. Her friend Dorothy passed away several years ago and Grandma was feeling like her temple work needed to get done. Kathy knows that I've been doing family history, so she asked me to help.
I knew we'd need permission, but Dorothy's husband and only child died years before her. I asked Grandma about sibling and she knew Dorothy had brothers, but she couldn't remember much more.

Technology is so amazing! So, right then and there I looked up Dorothy's obituary on my phone and read that she was survived by five brothers. I tried looking them up, but didn't have a lot of luck. Then I remembered three of them lived in Evanston. So we busted out the ol' phonebook. I found her brother Clarence. I called him right then.
I had to yell for him to hear him. I made sure he was Dorothy's brother. I told him about Grandma Bruce and asked about doing her temple work. He said, "Well, I don't know anything about that." I told him he didn't have to do anything, but we needed permission from him so we could do her work. He laughed and said, "I don't care."
That's permission. :)
I was super excited! I didn't know how to find her on family search since she isn't my relative, all I had to do was look her up, but then it didn't tell me what work needed done. I called the 800 number and talked to this nice little man for about 25 minutes.
He helped me pull up Dorothy's information and we found that all of her work has already been done.
haha.
But it was still a good experience. I learned a lot and I got up the courage to call a perfect stranger.
Since then, I've called my cousin several times about doing my Aunt Virginia's work. She hasn't returned my calls, but I know my experience with Dorothy is what gave me the courage to try. And I'll keep trying.

Names

The past couple months in doing family history I have come across some interesting names.
One lady had a picture and it was kind of a crazy looking picture and then her name read: Hannah (Bullass) Last Name (which I don't recall).
Some of the names I can't pronounce and some are passed on for generations. This name was so cute.
Mary Mee
I had to post/remember it. :)

Family History

About a month ago I watched a 2 minute video on how to find ancestors who still need temple work done. Since then I've been on familysearch.org maybe 5 times--probably once a week, looking. The first time I found that little green temple telling me I had a family member who needed work done was about 3 minutes after I first started. I couldn't believe I'd already found someone. I was scared--I know silly, but I was and I didn't reserve Susannah's name.
Since then, I've found 30 names to take to the temple!! THIRTY! Woo hoo! I haven't been able to find Susannah again. But I'm looking. There are so many names. I look at a couple and their children and then their children's children... and so on...
There are so many, so I developed a little messy system (below) to help me remember who I have looked at and who I haven't.
I can't wait to get to the temple, with a handful of MY family names. :)

Indexing

Tim started indexing last week.
