Birds

I have never really liked birds. See, birds don't really like me. First grade field trip to the zoo... who knows how many kids in a big ol' long line and the bird dive bombs me. They can sense my skittishness and they don't like me.

So, it's kind of odd that just in the last couple weeks I have taken a dozen pictures of birds--that I've been watching birds.
This little one and it's baby were hopping around our yard early one morning. I watched the momma hop all over while the baby sat still. She tilt her head to the side, like she was listening to the ground and then she'd stab the dirt with her beak and come up with a worm. I watched her feed her baby ten worms before they hopped over into the neighbors yard. They were so cute.

This magpie was at my in laws house over Memorial Day. It also had a baby. This story isn't as sweet though. It's baby fell onto the drive way and the dogs, Ranger and Toby, pounced on it and killed it. Jeff scooped the dead baby up with a shovel and got rid of it so the kids wouldn't touch it. Then that momma Magpie stood on that roof top and called and cried out for her baby over and over again. She was still crying out when we left more than 24 hours later. Broke my heart.
